Mark Newman has written an interdisciplinary book on the foundations of network theory. This book starts with the basics of network theory and then proceeds to more advanced topics, including analysis of generating functions. The book will be used in physics, engineering, sociology, economics, and computer science courses.

Networks are a core part of many disciplines. Yet, each discipline uses different notation and terminology. This book provides the most complete formal treatment of networks available and will be of use to many scholars. It greatly advances scientific literacy.
