Grant writing course revamped

In the grant writing course that is part of the curriculum, we took advantage of the changes in the format on the NIH R01 grant to teach the students not only how to write a grant but to write in a more concise format, focusing on the essential elements of communication. As has been true in the past, the students not only learn to write but to critically review each other's work. At the beginning of the semester this usually means finding typos and small grammatical errors. By the end of the semester students find ambiguities in the writing, or more important, flaws in the logic of each other's proposals.
