IGERT Trainees Emily Middleton and Chris Schmitt worked with faculty members Tony Di Fiore, Sara Stinson and group co-organizer Susan Anton on an annual workshop that brings together scholars from various subfields in biological anthropology to create new approaches to integrating data from human biology, primate behavior and skeletal biology (www.bonesandbehavior.org). The aim of the "Bones and Behavior Working Group" is to set the agenda for future synthetic research, to generate protocols that maximize linkages between behavioral, biological, and skeletal data, and to establish collaborative interdisciplinary research groups. Schmitt, who obtained his NYU Ph.D. in the spring of 2010, is now a postdoctoral fellow at UCLA working on a major interdisciplinary project on African primates that implements the new protocols developed by the working group.
