Trainee receives Public Policy Leadership Award

First-year IGERT trainee Meredith Niles received an Emerging Public Policy Leadership Award from the American Institute of Biological Sciences. Niles, one of three graduate students nationwide to receive this award, participated in Biological and Ecological Sciences Coalition Congressional Visits Day, met with members of the California congressional delegation, and attended a briefing on the federal budget for scientific research.

Niles studies sustainable agriculture and the implications of climate change and mitigation practices on agriculture. She intends to foster collaboration between policymakers and scientific researchers throughout her career.
