Mapping the density of electronic states

Trainee Peter Erslev (UO Physics, JD Cohen lab) in collaboration students at Oregon State University (OSU Chemistry, J Wager lab) was able to completely map the density of electronic states within the mobility gap of amorphous zinc tin oxide (ZTO). Amorphous oxide semiconductors such as ZTO are promising new materials which have the potential to vastly increase the performance of devices based on thin-film transistors, such as LCD displays on laptops. This fundamental understanding of the electronic structure in these materials will allow the technology to develop more expediently. This project would not have been possible without IGERT support.
