Wide-Field 3-D Single-Molecule Fluorescence Imaging

IGERT participants at the University of Colorado have developed methods for Wide-Field 3-D Single-Molecule Fluorescence Imaging. They have shown single-molecule localization precision of a few tens of nanometers in three dimensions. This achievement requires integration of advanced optics, biology, signal synthesis, and mathematical processing techniques. The method has extraordinary implications in biomedical imaging because it enables imaging of intracellular characteristics that go unnoticed in conventional optical microscopes.
