Ability of the brain to integrate modalities

Program faculty Dora Angelaki and Larry Snyder have married behavioral, neurophysiological, and computational approaches to investigate the ability of the brain to integrate over sensory modalities and generate appropriate behavior. The Angelaki lab specializes in identifying vestibular and visual contributions to perception of self in space; the Snyder lab specializes in the differential contributions of intended goal, attention, and body-part-to-be-moved to neuronal processing. The IGERT program has generated a tighter bond between these labs through the training of students conversant in the theoretical basis of neural computation, spatial representation, and optimal transformation of sense into decision and action.
