Achievement

IGERT Trainee Terry Frueh presented a talk on the relationships between charcoal transport and sediment transport and storage in steep forested watersheds of Oregon, at the Geological Society of America annual meeting. Following his talk, he had some interesting conversations with several carbon cycle researchers who expressed appreciation for the geomorphic perspective on the carbon cycle; they noted that much research by soil scientists studying charcoal is conducted in flat places (i.e., where negligible material moves downslope), but much of the world is sloped (i.e., carbon or charcoal may move downslope, as does co-located sediment).
