Supporting navigation for blind persons

Last years IGERT student cohort developed a sensor system using RFID tags to support indoor navigation for low vision or blind persons. This initial research was expanded over the past year into new research on RFID localization and indoor positioning and navigation support technologies for blind persons. This initial research contributed to development of a successful NSF CDI grant by the PI and the blind faculty member who was the client for the IGERT testbed project and to work on sensor localization on a lunar habitat module for NASA. The work also inspired the development of a new non-visual user interface technique that relies on the underlying indoor positioning methodology.
