Blog promotes eating invasive species

Three GLOBES-IGERT trainees have launched a website and blog that promotes eating of invasive species with a collection of tantalizing recipes while educating the public as to the damage done by invasive plants and animals to natural ecosystems. Although eating invasive species as a means to limiting their harmful effects isn't entirely new, the students decided to take the idea one step further by creating a website, Invasivore.org. Andy Deines, one of the co-founders, explained that the site contains much more than recipes. Visitors can find commentary on related topics such as species' profiles, histories and cultural significance, harvesting tips, and summaries of relevant scientific research. Since its launch in January of 2011, Invasivores.org has been featured on the LiveScience web site and the National Geographic Society Library blog.
