Achievement

Annie Gagliardi's research on child language learning involves a highly unusual synthesis of linguistic, experimental, and computational skills, most of which were developed via her participation in the IGERT program. She uses children's learning of noun class paradigms as a model system for studying category formation and generalization abilities. Her research has taken her to Dagestan and to Norway to work with child learners of Tsez and Norwegian, and she has conducted 'artificial grammar learning' studies in the lab, and has used computational simulations to clarify the learning mechanisms involved. She has given multiple well-received presentations on this work, and an article based on this work has been submitted to Language, the premier journal in linguistics. Although Annie is not due to graduate until next year, she has already received multiple post-doc offers, and has accepted a position at Harvard starting in 2012.
