Resilience of social-ecological systems

Three interdisciplinary teams of students and faculty have been formed that will conduct research on the resilience of coupled social-ecological systems in Idaho and Costa Rica. The teams have developed interdisciplinary proposals that will guide their research. One team will study land use change, human communities, and ecological processes in the San Juan-La Selva biological corridor in Costa Rica. Another team will pursue studies to examine the social, ecological, and physical processes affecting riparian functions in the Volcanica Central Talamanca biological corridor in Costa Rica. The third team will conduct work to assess the local effects of climate change and social-ecological vulnerability within forested regions of the U.S. northern Rockies.
