Achievement

In order to facilitate a number of IGERT research projects, we installed 19 smart apartments at Horizon House, a retirement community in Seattle. IGERT Trainees worked together on this project. Some of the students equipped the apartments with sensors to monitor resident activities. At the same time, other students conducted a complete battery of tests to determine physical and cognitive health for the participants. In addition, other students interviewed onsite staff to perform a usability study for the tools and visualization that the project will provide. The students were able to see the role that each group played and to work together on this large, multi-year study.
