Trainees receive multiple sources of support for fieldwork

In a very competitive environment for external funding, CPC IGERT trainees were successful with their applications for fellowships, dissertation completion awards, and fieldwork support. For the period March-November 2011, Brian Miller (Ecology) received multiple sources (NSF DDRI; UNC Graduate School Dissertation Completion Award) of support to conduct dissertation fieldwork in Tanzania. Sophia Giebultowicz (Geography) also received multiple sources (NSF DDRI; Sheps Dissertation Fellowship-UNC Department of Biostatistics; Tinker Award for Pre-Dissertation Research; and Mellon Dissertation Completion Award from the UNC Institute for the Study of the Americas) of support to conduct dissertation fieldwork in Nicaragua. Kim Engie (Geography) received support from the UNC Graduate and Professional Student Federation to conduct dissertation fieldwork in the Galapagos Islands (March –August 2012).
