What are the sources of eroded sediment in rivers? To address this question, Trainee Ben Abban, with help from Associate Feiran Jiao, has developed an improved Bayesian unmixing model and implemented it in the OpenBUGS software. Simulation studies show that their model very accurately estimates what proportion of stream sediment originates from different sources, such as forests and agricultural fields.
