Associate awarded top poster for interdisciplinary study

Li Xue, (IGERT associate, ISU), won the top poster award at the 2011 ACM-BCB conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and Biomedicine held in Chicago in August, 2011. Li, working under the guidance of ISU co-mentors, Vasant Honavar (IGERT co-PI) and Drena Dobbs (IGERT PI, ISU) presented work in which she led an interdisciplinary study that demonstrated how machine learning methods can be used to improve ranking scores for models of protein-protein complexes generated by computational docking. An extended version of her paper was invited for publication in a special issue of BMC Bioinformatics.
