Chambered shoe design allows terrain simulations

IGERT PI John Hollerbach and co-PI Mark Minor are collaborating on a research project that closely matches the Biocentric Robotics theme of the IGERT. This project combines virtual reality, novel actuated shoe soles, and simulated terrain in a walking treadmill environment to test and rehabilitate people with mobility disabilities. This project is in conjunction with specialists in ergonomics and rehabilitation from the department of mechanical engineering. The preliminary results are the design of a novel chambered shoe sole which will allow simulation of different terrain types while walking on the smooth treadmill surface.
