Trainee develops new Olympiad event, 'phyloinformatics'

IGERT trainee Paul (Cole) Eskridge is working with Arizona Science Olympiad directors to create a new event called "phyloinformatics." This event will introduce middle school and high school students from around the state to bioinformatics tools that are becoming more essential to many fields of biology. Cole is creating the data set and website for the students to review/complete prior to the day of the event. The website will also have training modules that will guide students in how to operate the necessary software for the event. The knowledge that Cole has obtained from being in the IGERT program has helped him to create this event.
