Trainees approach research questions with interdisciplinary mindset

Trainees are being prepared to become leaders who have a deep appreciation of interdisciplinary research. A universal theme in the evaluation data was that the program had markedly increased the Trainees’ ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Perhaps more significant, the Trainees felt that the experience had fundamentally altered how they approached research questions. Now, instead of simply addressing the disciplinary aspects of a question, the Trainees indicate that their initial thoughts regarding a new problem include how other disciplines might contribute to the overall solution. Such changes will impact these students and those with whom they interact for decades to come.
