Course requires students to develop case studies

STAIRCase II is being taught for a second year. Students are required to develop a case study on the sustainability of a process, practice or material and submit it for publication. In the spring of 2013, case studies include sustainable charcoal production in sub-Saharan Africa (IGERT trainee, Justin Roop), sustainable fabric alternatives (IGERT trainee, Sarah Williamson), and alternative production schemes for the growing nutritional supplement industry (IGERT trainee, Khoa Nguyen). IGERT trainee Jeffrey Clark’s case study on high school student participation in the sustainability analysis of transportation to and from school is sponsored by the EPA P3 program and is entered in the National Sustainable Design Expo in Washington DC.
