Fellow analyzing footage from the DeepSea Challenge expedition

IGERT Fellow, Natalya Gallo, a first year Biological Oceanography PhD student, has been actively working with Lisa Levin, Doug Bartlett, National Geographic, and James Cameron’s team to analyze the footage from the record-breaking DeepSea Challenge expedition. The megafaunal analysis has revealed new information about the community composition of these unique deep-sea ecosystems. To date, she has presented these results at a scientific meeting (ASLO, New Orleans, LA - February 22, 2013), and has shared these findings with a broader audience by participating in interviews with the media and presenting these results as part of an event to teach English through Science to ESL students at California State University Fullerton. These results are currently being prepared for manuscript submission.
