Research Achievements

Interdisciplinary collaboration leads to grant proposals

This IGERT has stimulated greater interaction between physical sciences faculty/students and biological sciences faculty/students. This is manifest in four interdisciplinary grant proposals submitted during the funding period (all pending). IGERT PIs and supervising faculty also report more involvement of other research groups in their standing weekly group meetings. One IGERT student and one Associate also submitted interdisciplinary pre-doctoral fellowship proposals to external funding agencies. We generated participation from physical scientists and engineers for a sectional meeting of the Society for Toxicology and provided an opportunity for our IGERT students to interact with students from a related nanotoxicity IGERT at Carnegie Mellon University.
