Trainee presents on privacy and security related research

Federica Fornaciari, IGERT Fellow, Department of Communication, has presented privacy and security related research at four different conferences this year. Her research is informed by the interdisciplinary course work, workshops and seminars of the ESP-IGERT program. She has explored how individuals disclose information on consumer reviews, discovering that often users share a large amount of sensitive information about themselves and about others, perhaps increasing the risks of privacy infringements, e.g. identity theft, de-anonimization and psychological harm.

In addition to her many conference presentations, Federica has authored a chapter in the Handbook of Research on Technoself: Identity in a Technological Society published by IGI Global. This chapter makes a valuable contribution to advancing theoretical perspectives well suited to understanding how people construct their online identity in the internet era.
