First IGERT core course developed

Development of first IGERT core course: Molecular and Cellular Biophotonics. We had enrollment from 5 IGERT trainees plus 4 other students spanning Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Lecturers included faculty from departments of Biomedical Engineering, Developmental and Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Ophthalmology. The course consistent of four modules each of which consisted of two lectures, a hands-on laboratory experience, and oral presentations reporting the results of Problem based learning assignments that were assigned to groups of 3 students (from different disciplines). This course was cross-listed between the Departments of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science and Chemistry and is slated to become a standard course offering in future years.
