Achievement

IGERT-Lifechips fellow Mark Merlo worked on a new wireless intraoral electrolarynx. Mark Merlo explained that the feasibility of the electrolarynx to be remotely powered by an external electromagnet has been demonstrated at two different driving frequencies. The intraoral transducer operates over a wide frequency range and is capable of producing audible sound from over 30mm away. The device tolerates positional inaccuracies between the transducer and electromagnet within an acceptable range. Angular orientation of the device is not critical, allwoing the intraoral transducer to be placed flush against the user’s palate. Further discussion about this research achievement will be discussed in as a highlight.
