Graphics processing unit architectures

Funded trainee Kevin Tubbs collaborated with Professor Tsai (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Allen (Computer Science) and mini-grant faculty mentor Dr. J. Tohline to investigate the acceleration of his research code in computational fluid dynamics on graphics processing unit (GPU) architectures. As a result, Kevin presented a poster on his research at the Fall 2008 Meeting of the American Geophysical Union, an excellent opportunity for the IGERT trainee to receive feedback from other researchers on both the science and computational aspects of his project. The research presented at that conference was also featured as a success story on the company of the software vendor that the trainee used.
