Transient storage parameters across watersheds

GLOBES trainee Peter Levi developed an undergraduate summer research project and mentored an REU student during the Summer of 2008 that has resulted in her work being presented at the 2009 annual North American Benthological Society meeting. The 10-week GLOBES REU project with Univ. of Minnesota (Morris) student, Sarah Winikoff, involved collecting data on eight streams on Prince of Wales Island. As a result of their work together and with GLOBES support, Ms. Winikoff will present the poster entitled "Transient storage is mediated by watershed timber harvest in Southeast Alaska streams", which discusses the effects of timber harvest on in-stream storage potential. Her data combined with additional data collected in 2007 by Levi provides an extensive study on transient storage parameters across watersheds of varying timber harvest and at different stream discharges within the same watershed. Levi will also present his research findings at the May NABS Conference.
