Achievement

Matt Hull, an EIGER trainee, was selected for US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Security Internship Program (NSIP). In summer 2008, M. Hull was selected to participate in the US DOE’s NSIP program at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) Marine Science Laboratory in Sequim, WA. While at PNNL, Hull worked with Dr. Irvin Schultz to experimentally evaluate techniques for tracking the fate and transport of engineered nanomaterials in marine invertebrates such as Dungeness crabs, razor clams, and blue mussels. Through this work, Hull gained first-hand knowledge of methods for determining toxicant disposition in marine test organisms, new analytical techniques for tracking toxicants in invertebrate lymphatic systems, and new strategies for developing nanotechnology-enhanced whole-organism biosensors for emerging water contaminants.
