Training the Next Generation Workforce: Biosensing-Bioactuation-Bionanotechnology Summer Institute 2012 (B3SI)

Description

The BioSensing BioActuation BioNanotechnology Summer Institute 2012, held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from July 30-August 10, 2012, trained participants at the intersection of biology and engineering and fostered networking with other researchers. The three main sponsoring projects were the Illinois IGERT: Training the Next Generation of Researchers in Cellular & Molecular Mechanics and Bionanotechnology (CMMB), the NIH Midwest Cancer Nanotechnology Training Center, and the BioSensing, BioActuation grant.

IGERT CMMB Trainees joined trainees and researchers from across the country and 20 participants from Taiwan for two weeks of lecture and hands-on laboratory training. Faculty from various Universities, including Illinois IGERT partner institution University of California, Merced, lectured on topics such as cell biology, nanoparticle delivery, cell differentiation, and mechanobiology. Participants, including two from partner institution North Carolina Central University, participated in six laborabory modules exposing them to techniques in cell and molecular biology, nanofabrication, microfluidics, therapeutic nanotechnology, and mechanobiology. Select lectures will be available on IGERT.org in the coming months. Full story >>
